A research project in the Vietnamese folk arts heritage
Mekong NYC hosts a music class to teach students how to play the đàn tranh (Vietnamese zither). The class is infused with storytelling, especially Vietnamese folk tales and culture, community building through group playing and listening, and group theory, examining traditional Vietnamese and Cambodian songs and pop music.

T H E   S T O R Y:
Ơn nghĩa sinh thành [The debt of life], by the famous Dương Thiệu Tước (5/15/1915-8/1/1995), is as famous as Lòng Mẹ for being the earliest songs that Vietnamese composers aiming at bài tây theo điệu ta creating new songs with an air of Vietnamese traditional music and the love of parents in ancestor worshipping.

The students can use this YouTube video Lưu Ánh Loan, 2019 to turn the song into a tranh version with an introduction.
